2007 Call for Scholarships

The New Year brings the call for scholarships for the 2007-2008 academic year.  Last year, ten New England students received awards of $1,000. Scholarships are jointly sponsored by our chapter and the National AEE Foundation Scholarship program.  Our goal is at least six scholarships, with two originating from chapter members or friends.  Applicants are jointly recommended by their schools as well as our chapter’s Board of Directors.  If you know a good candidate according to the requirements below, please contact Dan Wheatley, Scholarship Chairman, for an application (contact information below).

Scholarship Purpose and Eligibility
The AEE Foundation Scholarship program was established to encourage qualified students in energy engineering and energy management by awarding scholarships to further education in the field. Scholarships are available to undergraduate and graduate degree candidates enrolled in engineering or energy management programs at accredited colleges or universities.  For further information on the scholarship foundation, visit the AEE website at www.aeecenter.org and click on ‘AEE Foundation’.

Selection Process and Date

Scholarships are awarded based on academics, character, and financial need. Nominations should be submitted to our chapter by April 1 of this year for evaluation.  For information on submission and eligibility please contact us:

2004-2005 Academic Scholarship Awards

At our November meeting, we had the pleasure of introducing the five academic scholarship winners for the academic year 2004-2005.  As many of you know, our New England chapter has the tradition of awarding these higher education scholarships to students of local colleges or local students who are pursuing studies in the energy field.  Scholarships are awarded annually, at $1000 per student.  This year’s winners were: Barry Joyce and Sean Flanagan, Massachusetts Maritime Academy; Eli Young and Michael Glovansky, Wentworth Institute; and Scott Perry, Syracuse University.  I also want our chapter members to know of the sincere, personal thanks and appreciation expressed to us by the students, guests and parents during the dinner.

President Joe Hall spoke on the tradition and relevance of the granting of the scholarships, describing how this annual service to our community is integral to the definition and character of our chapter and to AEE nationally.  Though we are a non-profit organization, this community giving empowers AEE to lobby nationally on energy policy and other relevant energy issues.  All of the work in procuring this year’s scholarships, including school contacts, calls, paperwork, and follow-up, was done by chapter treasurer Arthur Orenberg.
