November 2017 Meeting - Cannabis: Explosive Market Growth, Extreme Energy Intensity

The legal cannabis market in Massachusetts alone is projected to reach $1.2 billion by 2021. The race is on for building grow facilities in MA, RI and ME. There are at least 40 grow facilities running or in construction in New England already with new projects emerging weekly. Can VT, CT and NH be far behind? This is a fascinating field that has challenged the best of energy engineers with psychometrics and  plant transpiration theory. Local utilities are on the leading edge of understanding efficiency opportunities for this amazingly complex market. We will touch on; what grow facilities looks like, how they operate, energy consumption and energy efficiency (lighting, cooling, dehumidification, CHP).

AEE Technical Round Table - A Deep Dive on Energy Storage

Join us for a deep dive discussion of energy storage. We will be discussing current Energy Storage policy issues and hear from Will Lauwers from Mass DOER. We will hear about a current successful energy storage project that is installed and being used by the Sterling Municipal Light Plant. We will learn a little about new battery technology. And finally, we will get more information about how to use all of this to help our energy economics. A continental breakfast will be served!
